SVEEP

Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) is a Campaignme of multi interventions through different modes and media designed to educate citizens, electors and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and participation in the electoral processes. SVEEP is designed according to the socio-economic, cultural and demographic profile of the Manipur as well as history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections and learning thereof.

During the PwD certification program conducted by DFWO, Churachandpur. A special campaign to enroll the participants during the program was organized at District Hospital. It was found out that most PwDs who came for certification were already enrolled in the electoral roll. Some who were not enrolled were registered in the electoral roll. The PwDs and family members were very appreciative of the special drive that was conducted.

  • Free entry tickets were given to the new voters and form 6, 7, 8 and 8A were issued. Also, the new voters were felicitated during the match.
  • A skit with powerful message on “Inclusive & Accessible Election” was performed by Centre for Community Initiative (CCI)
  • Dance aerobics group demonstrated aerobics and wore “I AM READY” T-Shirts to raise awareness on healthy body, healthy election & healthy democracy
  • The grand post match presentation ceremony was in front of presentation banner containing “I am Ready” logo
  • Hoardings and Banners on “I am Ready” “Inclusive Election” and “EVM/VVPAT” were erected all along the ground.

Activities

A total of 28 matches were played during this period (22 pool matches, 4 Quarter final matches and 2 Semi Final matches). An average of 1000 people attended the event every night. Every night the names of 18/19 yrs old people (Newly Eligible Voter) were collected and form-6 were given to them while felicitating during the match break. Election stall was managed by election staffs during the whole event and new voters were encouraged to visit the stall and were briefed on registration as voters

Despite of inclement weather on a few nights, the response of public was huge. This provided a unique opportunity to witness nightlife in the town and to spread electoral awareness among the masses. Also, it provided a platform for young girls to showcase their talents.

It was a successful campaign for both children as well as adults; problem of name/age correction was solved for many people. One village whose name is still not included in the electoral roll was also brought up to the knowledge of the DEO, they were given proper advice on the procedure to include there village name in the electoral roll.
